These pictures were taken a little over two weeks ago, between the 23rd and 25th of September when a government organized tourism festival was taking place in Muzzafarabad. It was the biggest event to ever take place there, a new Food Street had been constructed in its honour, people had come down from the mountains to catch a glimpse and the city was abuzz with excitement. This very city has been devastated and reduced to rubble. The Neelum Hotel where the ghazal evening in the photographs took place has reportedly been washed into the Neelum River; it was a strong concrete structure, at least four stories high. I hope the comparison between these pictures and those being broadcast by the media after the earthquake will serve to highlight the extent of the loss and how much help is needed for areas like Muzzafarabad to recover. Thanks for posting these pictures and giving "before" and "after" effect to the people, who did not had a chance to visit these places. It is just heart-breaking to see so many people suffering. May Allah give us all the patience/courage/HIS help to bear all this.

it was a dream to visit the place.i see the beauty in the pictures posted. it saddens me that so many lives were sacrificed and such a beautiful place in ruins.my prayers go to all those suffering and to those who survive and have the strength to rebuild their city, families and lives. nobody deserves such a devastation. how helpless i am to those in need.even, for i was not family, i could not help my exboyfriend's suffering, who is from muzaffarabad.he bears the name of the city.i pray for those...
